The project involved the complete aesthetic renovation of the historic Pizzeria Egizio, a long-standing landmark first located in the Quartiere Azzurro district and, for the past several years, in Quinto al Mare. The design aimed to preserve the restaurant’s identity while reinterpreting it through a contemporary architectural language, maintaining a strong connection with its history.
A key principle of the project was the creative reuse of existing furnishings, transforming familiar elements into new architectural features. The original pendant lights were completely redesigned and repurposed, while the backrests of the existing benches were reclaimed and incorporated as wooden wall paneling behind the new seating, creating a subtle dialogue between the restaurant’s past and present.
These restored elements are complemented by newly introduced custom-made wooden furnishings, including tables, seating, and wall cladding, which bring warmth, texture, and visual continuity to the interior. The material palette is completed with rough plaster walls, enhancing the authenticity of the space and providing a neutral backdrop for the interior design.
A distinctive feature of the renovation is the series of large decorative canvases created by the artist Morof. His artwork combines the visual language of rock music with the culture and tradition of pizza, creating a unique graphic identity that becomes an integral part of the architectural concept. The artworks add character and reinforce the restaurant’s contemporary yet informal atmosphere.
The result is a space where memory, sustainability, and contemporary design coexist, transforming existing elements into new design opportunities while celebrating the history and identity of Pizzeria Egizio.

Il progetto ha riguardato il completo rinnovamento degli interni della storica Pizzeria Egizio, punto di riferimento del Quartiere Azzurro e oggi trasferita a Quinto al Mare. L’intervento nasce dalla volontà di conservare l’identità storica del locale, reinterpretandola attraverso un linguaggio contemporaneo, senza rinunciare alla memoria degli spazi originari.
Uno dei principi guida del progetto è stato il riuso creativo di numerosi elementi d’arredo esistenti, trasformandoli in nuove componenti architettoniche. I lampadari originali sono stati completamente ripensati e reinterpretati, mentre gli schienali delle vecchie panche sono stati recuperati e trasformati nella boiserie che caratterizza le nuove sedute, instaurando un dialogo tra passato e presente.
A questi elementi si affiancano nuovi arredi realizzati in legno naturale – tavoli, sedute e rivestimenti – che conferiscono calore e continuità materica agli ambienti. Le superfici sono completate da pareti in intonaco grezzo, capaci di esaltare l’autenticità dei materiali e creare un’atmosfera essenziale e contemporanea.
Elemento distintivo del progetto sono le grandi tele decorative realizzate dall’artista Morof, che reinterpretano in chiave grafica e ironica l’immaginario della pizzeria, fondendo il linguaggio della musica rock con quello della tradizione della pizza. Le opere diventano così parte integrante dell’architettura d’interni, contribuendo a definire un’identità forte, riconoscibile e fortemente caratterizzante.
Il risultato è un ambiente che unisce memoria, sostenibilità e design contemporaneo, valorizzando la storia della Pizzeria Egizio attraverso un intervento capace di trasformare elementi esistenti in nuove opportunità espressive.
